There are so many things to think about for your photos, but here are the top 5 things to consider when you’re taking your wedding or engagement photos in Chicago.
1. Think About the Timing
Depending on when you decide to take your photos in the city the light can differ completely. Having a sunrise engagement session is very different from a sunset engagement session.
Also, early morning shoots downtown mean your more likely to have the city to yourself. This can make it easier to have photos of just you and your love in the city! In the evening the city is busier with people adventuring or tourists.
2. What Events are Happening?
Chicago is a busy city filled with life and fun, but when you’re trying to have your photos taken different events and programs can completely interrupt the plan.
You might not want the whole crowd from the Pokemon Go festival to be in the backdrop of your wedding or engagement photos (this was an event I found out about last minute that I definitely wanted to avoid for my couple)! It’s important to find out the different events that are happening in Chicago during your planned time you shoot.
Also, many events mean there will be an increase in traffic. We would definitely put that into consideration in the planning of your wedding day timeline! So it’s important to determine ahead of time if there are any special events happening that day!
3. Location of Your Wedding Photos
Location can play a big factor when you’re getting your picture taken in Chicago. Depending on where you are in the city the available light varies. This is especially noticeable at sunrise and sunset.
If you’re doing engagement photos in the middle of downtown surrounded by buildings. It takes a little bit longer for light to become bright in the morning and it gets darker quickly in the evening. This is why you need to think about where you are in the city and how the light will affect your photos!
4. What Season is Your Wedding
When you decide to get photographed in Chicago you need to be ready for any kind of weather. Sometimes it snows in may, but also the next day it might be 80 degrees out. That being said we do have a general idea of what the weather will be like and it’s important to dress for the weather. If you decide to get photographed with lovely snow all around you might also want to have a lovely coat you love too!
5. You
What is most important to you? What has meaning for you as a couple? I think when you choose things that are meaningful to you it will add more value to the whole experience.
